DAWSON, Mark Pte 119548 Royal Army Medical Corps Details (E.E.F.).

Return to Yarm Roll Call

Mark Dawson, brother of Joseph Dawson, died in Egypt in 1917 following an operation aged 33. Mark was living with his wife Rose Mary and two children, one called Marie.

Joseph and Mark had a brother and sister called Sarah and John and the family lived at 21 Silver Street. His father was a plate layer and probably worked with Richard Elcoate (see John Elcoate).

Joseph Dawson senior is photographed near the new war memorial in Yarm which bears two of his son’s names in the 1920’s. Mark’s war memorial number is D. 176 situated in ALEXANDRIA (HADRA) WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY.

Mark married Rose Mary Topham from Bridge Streeet Yarm on 12 April 1909 and moved in with his mother and father in law until they died in 1914. On 16 Sept 1916 his daughter Margorie was born. Mary's brother Charles Henry Topham died one month later in Egypt.
